"There's Something funky going on in Minneapolis, MN, and it goes by the name PHO. The Seven-peice funk group continues to make a name for themselves, with infectious music and some great live performances...We Love that PHO phunk!" - Live For Live Music
“Instrumental funk crew PHO could pass for a pack of young CPAs, or a Mormon mission group. Yet they lay down industrial-strength grooves in the grand tradition of the JB’s, AWB, and the Meters with an electric Miles Davis flourish or two for good measure. These eight guys write catchy originals, and offer exciting solos to go with their irresistible rhythms. Like the BT Express, they’ll do it ’til you’re satisfied.” - Star Tribune
“The band's debut album, Cash It, incorporates the sophisticated Uptown strut of Prince, Jimmy Jam, and Terry Lewis...A labor of love, Cash It features flashes of virtuosic talent locked into a driving groove.” - City Pages
PHO is a Twin Cities funk band creating a new Minneapolis sound utilizing modern taste and classic influences to break musical boundaries.
2015 was a groundbreaking year for PHO. They released their debut album 'CASH IT' in February and created lasting buzz for recording such a mature and creative record as early 20 year olds. They reached out to friends Alan Evans of Soulive and John Davis, producer for Lettuce/Jo Jo Mayer to help achieve a sound that would resinate internationally. They have supported and toured with bands such as The Motet, Larry Graham and GCS, Jonathan Richman, Dopapod, and Oddisee. In early Early 2016 Prince found the band via Youtube and posted about them on his social media. This sparked a huge buzz for PHO around the globe and landed them an invite to Prince's Paisley Park Studio's opening for Larry Graham. Fans are watching this band eagerly into 2017 as they predict them to be one of the bigger names of the funk/festival scene.
